Govt set to create 15,000 jobs with Rs 417 crore electronics manufacturing cluster in UP
The government on Wednesday approved a Rs 417 crore electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC 2.0) to be set up at Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at boosting local innovation and manufacturing.
The cluster is expected to attract investment of Rs 2,500 crore, the electronics and information technology ministry said in a statement.
It will support manufacturing in consumer electronics, automotive and industrial electronics, medical devices, computer hardware and communication equipment.
“The project will lead to the creation of world-class infrastructure and generate 15,000 jobs,” said Union minister for electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw.
He added that the initiative is in line with the government’s focus on promoting manufacturing in the country.
The project will be developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority. It will be strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the upcoming Palwal-Khurja Expressway
The site is close to key transport hubs including a railway station and Jewar International Airport. The EMC is surrounded by important industrial zones such as the Medical Device Park, MSME & Apparel Park and the Aviation Hub.
So far, about Rs 30,000 crore has been invested in the projects under the scheme. The EMC has attracted 520 companies, leading to the generation of more than 86,000 jobs, as per official figures.
Startups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will get access to world-class plug-and-play infrastructure and shared facilities, at the upcoming cluster, aimed at reducing infrastructure and logistics costs, the statement said. These include standard factory sheds, electricity, water provisioning, sewage treatment, hostels, skill development centres and health centres.
Officials have been instructed to work closely with the UP government to ensure faster execution of the project, the statement said.
