Kussh S Sinha , son of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha and actress Poonam Sinha, is making his directorial debut with the film ‘ Nikita Roy ’, starring his sister Sonakshi Sinha . In a recent interview, Kussh spoke about the nepotism tag often associated with the industry and the kind of discussions he has with his sister and father at home regarding careers and films.

In a conversation with India Today, Kussh shared why he decided to cast Sonakshi in the psychological drama.

Kussh reveals why he chose Sonakshi Sinha for Nikita Roy

Kussh revealed that his sister’s involvement in the film was based purely on merit. He called her a capable actress and admitted that he did not cast her just because she is his sister. He decided to feature Sonakshi because she fit the role of Nikita Roy with conviction.

The ‘Dabangg’ actress was able to bring to the table certain qualities the character required in the film. “Of course, having a level of comfort and understanding with your lead actor is a bonus. But the decision was purely based on performance, not proximity,” he added.

Kussh Reacts to the 'nepo-kid' label

Kussh is no stranger to the scrutiny that comes with being a star kid. “You can’t choose the family you’re born into, but you can choose the values you live by and the work you put out,” he stated.

He acknowledged the privilege but stressed that the effort it takes to build one’s own path matters most to him. “As my father told me early on, you'll have to work as hard, if not harder, than everyone else just to prove your worth. And I’ve taken that to heart,” Kussh added. He believes in creating more stories that connect with people.

Collaborating with Family

Kussh also shed light on the creative process with his family members and highlighted how conversations differ between his sister and father. “With Sonakshi, it’s a more relaxed, informal back-and-forth. We exchange ideas, talk about roles, performances, and sometimes even the state of the industry,” he said.

His conversations with his father take on a more philosophical and seasoned tone. “With my father, the discussions are deeper, rooted in experience and perspective… His focus is often on the ‘why’ behind a story, not just the ‘what.’ It helps me zoom out and see the bigger picture.”
