Shruti Haasan , one of the most celebrated names in South Indian cinema , recently opened up about her breakthrough role in Pawan Kalyan 's ' Gabbar Singh ', calling it a turning point in her career. Recently, the actress shared how the 2012 film gave her the recognition she longed for and why she considers Telugu cinema her true launchpad.

In a conversation on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, the actress revealed that she wasn't initially finalised for 'Gabbar Singh', which was the Telugu remake of Salman Khan's 'Dabangg'. "I was supposed to be in Pawan Kalyan sir's movie Gabbar Singh… Then, there was some issue and I was not going to be in it," she said. However, director Harish Shankar stood firmly by her side. "He really fought for me, saying that he saw me in the role and needed me," Shruti added. "I went, and my life just changed after that. That's how I have the career I have today because Telugu gave me my first home of success."

When asked about working with Pawan Kalyan, Shruti didn’t hold back her admiration. "I was intimidated. He was a huge star. But he was always very sweet, reticent, and quiet," she recalled. She also spoke of him like Tamil superstar Vijay; she mentioned that both actors share a gentlemanly, respectful demeanor on set.

During their conversation, Shruti was also asked whether at that time she thought Pawan Kalyan would enter politics. She said, "No," and mentioned that she never saw that coming. She also praised his grounded nature and desire to stay connected to people and farming. “He was so rooted. He often talks about farming and returning to the villages, and if you think about it now in context, that kind of person should be in politics," she said.

On the work front, she is gearing up for the release of Rajinikanth starrer ' Coolie ' playing a key role. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the movie has a star cast including names like Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, a brief appearance of Aamir Khan and a dance number featuring Pooja Hegde.
