Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 is set to mark Smriti Irani 's TV comeback. According to reports, the shooting has begun in Filmcity , and the Ekta Kapoor show is scheduled to premiere on July 3, 2025 . Smriti will play her iconic role as Tulsi again. Despite everything, the actress-politician disclosed in a recent interview that Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 was originally scheduled for 2014, but she left it early to serve the country as a cabinet minister.

Smriti Irani disclosed that Ekta Kapoor had managed to keep the secret for so long in a conversation with Karan Johar on the special show We The Women of Mojo Story. Indeed, after becoming well-known, Smriti acknowledged that she was earning more money than the male lead.

Smriti said, 'I was not paid more than the male protagonist when I had signed the contract. I created that space in collaboration with the creator of the show. I remember when we did that particular engagement contract; Ekta (Kapoor) was very focused on the history we were about to create. Everybody else was bothered about the pay cheque. She has always been focused on what the threshold is that she can cross or what new standard she can set. If you look at the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi journey in totality, the most well-kept secret about it was I had a contract to do it again in 2014, and I walked away from it because I had to serve in the Indian Parliament as a cabinet minister.'

She further went on to share that she had walked out of a film starring Rishi Kapoor after winning the elections, “There were two projects that I had walked away from. One was a movie that I was doing with the late Rishi Kapoor, and another one was Kyunki 2. The set was ready, but there was a phone call from the Prime Minister's office that you had to take an oath. So, I walked away from both of them. I remember Rishi Kapoor telling me to leave now because to serve your country is a greater service than just doing a movie or doing television.”
