Uttar Pradesh Excise Dept Seizes 7.72 Lakh Litres Illicit Liquor, Arrests 5,559 In Q1 Crackdown; Revenue Jumps By ₹2,445 Crore
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has intensified its crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, registering 29,784 cases, arresting 5,559 individuals, and seizing over 7.72 lakh litres of illicit alcohol in the first quarter (April–June) of FY 2025–26. Among those arrested, 1,075 have been jailed, and 35 vehicles used for smuggling were impounded.
In a 15-day special enforcement drive held from June 6 to June 20, the department registered 5,079 cases and seized 1,42,401 litres of illegal liquor. A total of 924 people were arrested, with 189 sent to jail. Three smuggling vehicles were also seized.
Officials say the campaign significantly curbed the circulation of illicit liquor in the state. Excise revenue collection also saw a marked rise. The department collected Rs 4,458 crore in June 2025, a 30% increase from Rs 3,431.20 crore in June last year.
In Q1 of FY 2025–26, Rs 14,229 crore was collected against a target of Rs 14,400 crore an achievement of 98.8%. This marks a Rs 2,445 crore jump from Rs 11,783.76 crore collected in the same period last year.

The Excise Department attributes this year’s improved outcomes to rigorous enforcement and policy reforms aimed at tightening control over the liquor supply chain.
