Odisha Covid cases surpass 33K

Bhubaneswar/UNI: Odisha reported 1602 new Covid cases from 29 districts raising the tally to 33,479 while ten more Covid patients died during the last 24 hours taking the casualty figure to 187.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 993 positive cases were reported from Quarantine centres and 609 were found to be local contact cases.

During the last 24 hours,ten covid patients succumbed to the virus raising the toll in the state to 187.

Among the ten new casualties, Ganjam district reported five followed by Khordha(3) and one each in Gajapati and Sundargarh district.

At the same time one more Covid patient also died in the state but the authority attributed the death due to reasons other than Covid.

Sources said a 30-year-old Covid positive male of Nayagarh district died due to Acute Chronic Kidney Disease Septic Shock.

So far 5,28,708 samples have been tested in the state and 33,479 have been infected with the coronavirus of which 20,518 have already been cured while12736 active cases are under treatment.

The Covid 19 has so far claimed 187 lives and 38 patients have also died in the state but due to reasons other than Covid.

Ganjam district has the highest number of 10,672 covid positive cases as well as 99 deaths and six non-covid deaths.

Khordha district has registered 25 covid casualty and 8 non covid deaths followed by Cuttack ( 11 covid deaths three non covid deaths),Gajapati ( 11),Sundargarh ( 9) and Rayagada ( 7 ).

Puri, Nayagarh and Balasore districts each reported three casualties.

Sources said out of 1602 fresh cases reported during the last 24 hours,a maximum number of 308 were reported from the hot spot Ganjam district followed by Khordha(235), Rayagada ( 164),Gajapati (108), Sundargarh (62),Puri (50) and Dhenkanal ( 49 ).

Meanwhile, the Ganjam district administration today sealed all the entry and exit points in the district and also Berhampur town and launched a door to door contact tracing in view of the rising number of 10672 covid cases reported from the district.

On the other hand ,the Rayagada district administration today announced a 72-hour shutdown in the entire district till August 3 after 164 positive cases were reported from the districts during the last 24 hours.
