The global outage triggered a flood of complaints on outage tracker downdetector, with over 2,000 reports flooding in by just after 4pm UK time. It appears the technical meltdown isn't limited to the UK - with users in the US also facing issues, including vanishing follower pages and unresponsive profiles.
According to a UK outage map, Brits in several major cities were experiencing issues today, including those in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, London and Cardiff.
Frustrated users rushed to X, formerly Twitter, to vent. One said: "Will forever run to X whenever Instagram is down to check if it’s just me or the whole world’s collapsing." Another person, watching Love Island and the Diddy trial, added: "Instagram down after the Love Island and Diddy verdict," while a third blamed the blackout on live coverage of the trial's verdict. "Diddy verdict done shut down instagram," the user said.
Others said they were struggling to tag accounts or get into the app's settings. "Anyone else's Instagram down?? I can't tag accounts on my stories, the song selection on my stories aren't displaying at the top, and my settings won't load," one person said. Another wrote: "Running to twitter to see if instagram is down or if it just my phone."
The number of reports fell dramatically at around 5:10pm, with just 58 users reporting problems with the app as of 5:40pm.
