The CPI(M) Politburo has condemned US president Donald Trump's statement on Iran, calling it "belligerent", and said it is highly deplorable that he is "openly threatening" to assassinate Iranian leaders.

The Left party also said that the statement issued by the G7 (Group of Seven) countries in Canada was reprehensible, as it blames Iran while it shuts its eyes to Israel's acts of aggression.

In a statement issued in New Delhi, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) urged the international community to act urgently to pressure the US and Israel to cease their aggressive actions and return to diplomacy.

"The Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns US President Donald Trump's belligerent statements on Iran. Such rhetoric will further escalate tensions and push the entire West Asia region towards war and instability," CPI(M) said.

"It is highly deplorable that President Trump is now openly threatening to assassinate Iranian leaders and demanding Iran's unconditional surrender. The large-scale mobilisation of US military fleets in West Asia further signals its readiness to join Israel in launching attacks on Iran," the CPI(M) said.

They said these developments are dangerous and risk pushing the region and the world to the brink of a devastating war.

"The US and Western imperialism are using a rogue State, Israel, to impose their hegemony over West Asia and beyond, in blatant violation of international laws and conventions," the CPI(M) said, adding, "The international community must act urgently to pressure the US and Israel to cease their aggressive actions and return to diplomacy."

The party also demanded that the BJP-led Indian government must abandon its pro-US, pro-Israel foreign policy stance.

"A genuine commitment to the Global South requires solidarity with other nations to collectively demand an immediate end to Israel's aggression and that of its principal backer, the United States," it added.

The CPI(M) also said the recent statement of G7 countries is reprehensible.

Leaders of the G7 countries meeting in Canada signed a joint statement calling for de-escalation of fight between Israel and Iran, while reaffirming that Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear bomb.

"We, the leaders of the G7, reiterate our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. In this context, we affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel," the statement read.

Trump, who made an early departure from the G7 meeting, on Tuesday said the US knows where Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is hiding during the Israel-Iran conflict but does not want him killed "for now."

In a social media posting, Trump urged Iran's "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER" as the five-day conflict continued to escalate.
