Parts of Bengaluru to again suffer power cuts today as electricity outage continues in Silicon City

Bengaluru: The Silicon City is experiencing extensive power outages this week as part of a scheduled infrastructure upgrade led by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL). The disruptions, implemented by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), are part of an ongoing initiative to modernise the city’s power network and improve long-term supply reliability.

Notably, these scheduled power outages will continue today, affecting multiple localities within BESCOM’s jurisdiction. In the meantime, residents are advised to stay prepared as these power cuts are necessary, as per the electricity department.

Power outage engulfs Bengaluru

On Friday, several prominent neighbourhoods, including Mahalakshmi Layout, Rajajinagar, Yeshwanthpura Industrial Area and Indiranagar, were left without electricity between 10am and 5pm. The outage extended across adjoining areas such as Manjunath Nagar, JC Nagar, Modi Hospital Road, Punjab National Bank locality, Gruhalakshmi Layout, and neighbouring residential colonies. Other affected localities included Unix Colony, Kirloskar Colony, Karnataka Layout, Kamala Nagar and Bovi Palya.

Commercial and educational zones also bore the brunt of the power cuts. Locations such as GD Naidu Hall, BNES College, Bell Apartment, the Toyota showroom, Lumos Apartment and the Sandal Soap Factory area all faced disruptions.

Bengaluru’s IT corridor also affected by power cuts

The city’s IT corridor was not spared either. Bannerghatta Road and BTM Layout—home to several tech parks and offices—experienced outages that affected IAS Colony, NS Palya Industrial Area, and both phases of Electronic City. Offices belonging to Tech Mahindra, as well as areas like Hebbagodi and Hulimangala Station, were among those impacted.

Scheduled maintenance continued into Saturday, with areas such as Peenya and Rajagopala Nagar witnessing day-long blackouts. Power was also cut along HMT Main Road, CMTI, Boralingappa Garden, GKW Layout, Bank Colony, and around landmarks including Vignan Public School, RNS Apartment, ESI Hospital, Akash Theatre Road, Kasthuri Road, Friends Circle and Malayali Guest House Road.

The power supply interruptions extended to peripheral neighbourhoods on the outskirts of Bengaluru, including Tharabanahalli, Hesaraghatta, Chikkabanavara, Dasenahalli and Soladevanahalli.

Yeaterday, residents in and around Electronic City Phase 1 experienced a full-day power outage. Affected areas included Doddathoguru, Bommanahalli, NJR Layout, Chikkathoguru, Konappana Agrahara and Hongasandra.
