New Delhi: Kuberaa is a pan-India crime drama led by Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna. Despite strong pre-release anticipation and favourable reviews, the film managed to open at Rs 13 crore on its first day, according to early estimates shared by Sacnilk.com.

Directed by Shekhar Kammula and produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao under Amigos Creations, Kuberaa

has been described as an intense socio-political drama with spiritual undertones. The opening day figures, though respectable, have remained slightly below expectations, particularly when compared to Dhanush’s last release Raayan, which had collected Rs 15.7 crore on day one.

Kuberaa box office Day 1

A decent turnout was recorded in Telugu-speaking regions, where the film logged an overall occupancy of 57.36% on Friday. Morning shows began with 38.94%, while afternoon screenings rose to 54.58%. By the evening, footfall had further increased, reaching 57.04%. A stronger weekend performance is now being anticipated, given the early praise being directed towards Dhanush’s performance and the film’s thought-provoking narrative.

Attention was also drawn to Dhanush’s emotional reaction to the film’s reception. On Friday morning, he was spotted attending the first day, first show screening of Kuberaa alongside his son Linga at Rohini Silver Screens in Chennai. Videos of the actor interacting with fans, appearing overwhelmed and teary-eyed, quickly went viral. In one instance, fans were seen climbing walls and stretching out to shake hands with the actor, while security struggled to manage the surging crowd.

More about Kuberaa

Meanwhile, Kuberaa’s theatrical cut was trimmed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) prior to its release. A total of 19 scenes were removed, cutting the runtime by 13 minutes and 41 seconds. The film was eventually granted a UA certificate, clearing its way for a wide release across languages.

Though it opened lower than Raayan, Kuberaa

has been buoyed by positive word of mouth and may see upward momentum through the weekend. The film faces some competition in the Hindi belt from Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, but with its strong ensemble cast, also featuring Jim Sarbh, it’s expected to hold steady in the southern and pan-India markets.
