New Delhi: England skipper Ben Stokes bowled a sensational delivery to dismiss centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal on the first day of the first Test match between India and England in Leeds on Friday. After India were put into bat first, Jaiswal along with KL Rahul gave the team a solid start with scintillating knocks in the first session.

But at the stroke of Lunch, hosts England bounced back in the game with the wickets of Rahul (42) and Sai Sudharsan who was out for a duck. In the second session of the day, India came back into the match as it proved to be a wicketless session seeing complete dominance from the visiting side. While Jaiswal continued his fabulous form smashing a century, his first in England, skipper Gill smashed a half-century.

After the Indian batters returned to the field in the final session of the day, English skipper Stokes unfurled his magic cleaning up the dangerous looking Jaiswal with a sensational delivery. The left-handed opener who had scored 101 runs with a lone six and 16 boundaries failed to read the full length ball bowled by Stokes that deceived him completely and went on to hit his stumps.

After forging a 91-run stand with Rahul for the opening wicket which set the perfect base for the tourists in the side, the left-handed sensation continued his brilliant form even after India lost two quick wickets. Jaiswal, undeterred by the quick fall of wickets, smashed the English bowlers all across the stadium in innings which seemed like one of his knocks in the T20Is. He became the seventh Indian opening batter to smash a century in England.

Meanwhile, vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant joined skipper Gill on the crease to steer the Indian innings ahead after the departure of Jaiswal. Gill, who is leading Indian for the first time in the longest format, seemed poised for a big knock after smashing a half-century in style.
