Tamil actor Srikanth arrested in high-profile drug case; cocaine transactions worth Rs 4.72 lakh uncovered
Chennai: Popular Tamil and Telugu actor Srikanth, known for films like Rojakoottam and Parthiban Kanavu, was arrested today by the Chennai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) in connection with a sprawling drug trafficking investigation. The arrest follows medical tests at Kilpauk Government Hospital that allegedly confirmed cocaine use, with police revealing the actor made 40 drug purchases worth ₹4.72 lakh through digital payments.
The investigation originated from a June 17 brawl at a Nungambakkam bar involving former AIADMK functionary Prasad and associate Ajay Vandayar. When police examined seized phones, they uncovered WhatsApp chats linking Prasad to an international drug network. This led to the arrest of Prasad’s associate Pradeep Kumar (first accused) and a Ghanaian national named John (second accused), exposing a cocaine supply chain allegedly serving Chennai’s elite.
Actor Srikanth emerged as the third accused after digital evidence showed 40 transactions totaling ₹4.72 lakh for cocaine purchases at Rs12,000/gram. Blood tests at Madras Medical College reportedly confirmed prolonged drug use, with forensic experts noting cocaine traces can remain detectable for 45 days.
Political and Industry ShockwavesThe case has sent tremors through both political and entertainment circles. Prasad, a former AIADMK IT wing leader expelled after his arrest, allegedly supplied drugs to multiple high-profile figures. Investigators hint more arrests may follow as they analyze Pradeep’s client list.
Srikanth’s arrest marks the latest in a series of drug scandals rocking the Tamil film industry. The actor, who recently appeared in Manasellam, now faces charges under the stringent NDPS Act that could lead to significant jail time if convicted.
Police sources confirm the international angle remains active, with investigations ongoing into the African drug network’s local operations. The ANIU has deployed special teams to track financial trails and potential celebrity connections, signalling this case may widen in coming weeks.
