National pride and self-reliance top the list for most Indians, with 73% saying defending the country is key.
Economic worries are close behind—nearly three-quarters want more government investment in jobs, education, and public safety.
The survey also found more people prefer locals get jobs when work is scarce (62%), and opinions on elites are split almost evenly.
