President Murmu honors tribal warriors on Hul Diwas
Tribute to heroes of rebellion Hul Diwas now stands as a reminder of early tribal resistance and the ongoing fight for justice.
President Murmu paid respects to Sido, Kanhu, Chand, Bhairav, and sisters Phoolo and Jhano—acknowledging their bravery as thousands of Santhals joined the rebellion.
With support from other communities, they fought guerrilla-style battles across hundreds of villages.
Though the rebellion was crushed, it exposed harsh colonial exploitation and led to creating the Santhal Parganas district.
