Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, which was founded by his father Dr. Surinder Kapur in 1997. Sunjay took over the reins of the company after his father's death in 2015 and expanded it to countries like India, the US, China, Mexico and Serbia. The company's market capitalization was around Rs 39,000 crore in 2024.
Who will handle Sunjay Kapur's business?After Sunjay untimely demise, discussions have intensified on who will lead his company. According to a report, Sunjay's two sisters—Suparna Motwane and Mandira Kapoor Koirala—may take charge of this huge empire. Suparna is the editor of a magazine, while Mandira is the founder of Sona Mandira Private Limited, which specializes in automotive components. However, Mandira and Sunjay have previously had a legal dispute over the use of the "Sona" brand.
According to Forbes, Sunjay Kapur's net worth was $1.2 billion (about Rs 10,300 crore) at the time of his death. He was the 2703rd richest person in the world. Sunjay had married three times. His second marriage was to Karisma Kapoor in 2003, after which they divorced in 2016. The couple has two children—Samaira (born 2005) and Kian (born 2011). After the divorce, Sunjay married model-actress Priya Sachdev in 2017, with whom he has a son Azaarius.
Sunjay also adopted Priya's daughter Safira from her first marriage. According to reports, after his divorce from Karisma, Sanjay bought bonds worth Rs 14 crore for his children Samaira and Kiaan, which earn an interest of Rs 10 lakh every month. Apart from this, a house in Khar was also registered in the name of the children. However, it is not clear how Sanjay's property will be divided among his four children—Samaira, Kiaan, Safira and Azaarius. Priya Sachdev may also play a role in handling the family business.
