Soon a fixed limit will be set for the temperature of AC in India. Recently, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar announced that a new provision regarding air conditioning standards will be implemented soon. He said that the temperature of the air conditioner will be standardized between 20°C to 28°C, which means that the AC will not be able to cool below 20°C or heat above 28°C. He described this initiative as a unique experiment to standardize temperature settings.

Electricity will be saved.
According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), increasing the temperature of your air conditioner by just 1 degree Celsius can save you about 6 percent of your electricity bill. He explains that many people set their air conditioners to 20-21 degrees Celsius, but the standard level is actually between 24-25 degrees Celsius. If you set your air conditioner at 20 to 24 degrees, you can save about 24 percent electricity.

By keeping your air conditioner at 24 degrees, you not only save energy but also cut down on expenses. BEE estimates that if many people follow this advice, we can collectively save about 20 billion units of electricity every year, which is worth about Rs 10,000 crore.

If about half of the users make this change, it can save 10 billion units of electricity, reducing about 8.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

Remember that you can easily change the factory settings of your air conditioner if you want to make these changes. The way the compressor cools the air remains the same regardless of the settings. However, if you set the temperature between 18 to 21 degrees Celsius, the indoor environment can become too cold. This often leads to people wearing warm clothes, which leads to a waste of energy. According to research done on this, a temperature of up to 25 degrees Celsius is comfortable for most people, especially when the humidity and air flow are also at a good level.
