Ahmedabad Air Crash Triggers High-Level Probe: Committee to Submit Report in 3 Months

The tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has sent shockwaves across the nation. In response, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has constituted a high-level, multi-disciplinary committee to investigate the cause of the disaster involving Air India Flight AI-171. On Thursday, Air India Flight AI-171, en route to London from Ahmedabad, crashed just five minutes after takeoff. The aircraft had barely reached an altitude of 625 feet when it plummeted and collided with the hostel of BJ Medical College, causing unimaginable destruction. Committee to Probe Every Angle

To uncover the cause of the crash and prevent such tragedies in the future, the Central Government has tasked a powerful investigative panel. The committee will be chaired by the Union Home Secretary and include:

• Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation

• Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs

• Representatives from the Government of Gujarat

• State Disaster Response Authority officials

• Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad

• Director Generals of DGCA, BCAS, and IAF

• Special Director from the Intelligence Bureau

• Forensic science experts

The committee may also induct additional experts including aviation safety analysts, accident investigators, and legal professionals.

Access to Crucial Data and Witnesses

Investigators will examine key evidence including black box data (flight data and cockpit voice recorders), air traffic control logs, aircraft maintenance records, and eyewitness accounts. The site of the crash will undergo thorough inspection, and interviews will be conducted with surviving crew, ATC staff, and others involved.

If the investigation finds involvement of foreign nationals, aircraft manufacturers, or international systems, the committee will coordinate with global agencies to ensure a comprehensive review.

The government has directed the committee to recommend improvements in existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and suggest robust guidelines to deal with such emergencies in the future.
