One of the most common and stressful problems faced by passengers is missing the train. But does missing the train spoil the ticket, let's know about the rules related to it-

Can you board another train with the same ticket?

Whether you can use your ticket on another train or not depends on the type of ticket you have:

General (unreserved) ticket:

If you have a general coach ticket, you are allowed to travel on another train. It still depends on the type of train.

Reserved ticket:

If your ticket is for a reserved seat or berth, you cannot use the same ticket to board another train.

How to apply for a refund if you miss a train

If you miss your reserved train, you can still apply for a refund by filing a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) through the IRCTC platform. Here's how:

Log in to the IRCTC website or app.

Go to the "My Bookings" or "Booked Ticket History" section.

Select the missed journey ticket.

Click on "File TDR" and select the appropriate reason (e.g., passenger did not travel).

Submit a TDR request.

Refund timeline: The amount will be credited to your account within 60 days after verification by Indian Railways.

Refund rules for cancelled tickets

If you wish to cancel a confirmed train ticket, the refund amount depends on how early you cancel it:

48 to 12 hours before departure: 25% of the fare is deducted.

12 to 4 hours before departure: 50% of the fare is deducted.

Less than 4 hours before departure: No refund is given for confirmed tickets.

For RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) and waitlisted tickets, the cancellation must be done at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train, else no refund will be issued.
