UP CM Yogi Adityanath visits Hanuman temple amid EC campaign ban for 'Bajrang Bali' remark
New Delhi: A day after Election Commission imposed a nation-wide ban on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath from campaigning for his “provocative” communal remarks, Yogi visited Lucknow’s Hanuman Setu temple.
Earlier on Thursday, the Election Commission issued a show cause notice to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his “Ali and Bajrang Bali” remark while addressing a rally in Meerut. His comments were in response to BSP supremo Mayawati’s appeal asking Muslims to vote for the opposition alliance in the state.
Adityanath had compared the Lok Sabha elections to a contest between ‘Ali’, a revered figure in Islam, and Bajrang Bali, the Hindu god Hanuman.
