COVID-19 Threat: Five Bhubaneswar Slums In Community Transmission Grip

Bhubaneswar: Coronavirus has gone a step further with community transmission as it is believed to have entered the slums in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar.

The community transmission has now affected Trinath slum, Ganapati Nagar, Sitapur slum in Nayapalli, Harinagar near Mahishakhal and Akhandalmani slum in Unit-1.

The imposition of shutdown and lockdown and announcement of containment zones also didn’t help as people didn’t fully adhere to social distancing norms.

The Nayapalli area has now become the hotspot of the capital city. As a result, the community transmissions has now started in at least three slums in the area.

Over 90 people have been infected by the virus in Trinath Nagar slum alone. Active surveillance has also been disrupted here after an ASHA worker was infected.

Besides Trinath Nagar, the Sitapur slum is also believed to be affected. More than 30 cases have been reported here. Over 20 cases each have been reported in Ganapati Nagar and Gandhinagar slums. More than 50 infected people have been identified from various slums in SaliaSahi.

The infection tally has risen to 50 in Harinagar, near Mahishakhal and over 20 have been reported in Akhandalmani slum in Unit-1.
