Temperature soars in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heat wave conditions intensified in Odisha today with the mercury soaring above 35 degrees Celsius in many places with Malkangiri recording the hottest at 40.0 deg C.

The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar was recorded at 38.7 degree Celsius, the second highest while Cuttack sizzled at 37.6 degree C, the MeT department said here.

The entire State, particularly the western region, experienced gruelling heat as the maximum temperature in Jharsuguda as well as Bolangir was recorded at 36.1 degrees Celsius and 37 deg C respectively, followed by 36.1 degrees in Sambalpur, it said.

The mercury touched 34.8 degrees Celsius in Balasore, in Puri (32.8), Sundergarh (35), Hirakud (36.5) Talcher (36.5), it said.

The MeT office predicted the heat wave conditions to prevail in some areas of coastal and north interior part of the state over the next few days.
