PTC Web Desk: In a major breakthrough, the sister-in-law of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was arrested late Monday evening at Amritsar airport. Lovejit Kaur, wife of Mandeep Singh, was intercepted by the immigration authorities while attempting to board a flight to Australia. She was detained based on a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against her in connection with the high-profile murder case of gangster Gora Bariar, also known as Gurpreet Singh Gora.

The LOC had been issued to prevent her from fleeing the country following an FIR (No. 89) registered at Ghuman police station in Batala on May 26, 2025. The charges under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) include several serious criminal sections: Section 103 – murder, Section 109 – attempt to murder; Section 111 – culpable homicide not amounting to murder,  Section 3(5) – criminal conspiracy; Section 61(2) – threatening or intimidating witnesses section 249 – rioting with deadly weapons; and  Section 253 – grave offense during unlawful assembly

It is learnt that Lovejit had recently returned to India to attend the funeral of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s mother, Parmjeet Kaur, who was gunned down in Batala on June 27. Following overnight interrogation by security agencies, Lovejit was handed over to the Batala police for further investigation.

Gora Bariar, originally named Gurpreet Singh Gora, was a 33-year-old native of Bariar village in Gurdaspur. He was associated with the Billa-Gora gang, which, while not officially linked to the Bambiha gang, was under suspicion of collaborating with rival elements against Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Gora was shot dead on May 26, 2025, allegedly due to growing tensions with Jaggu’s network. It is speculated that Gora and Billa were encroaching on Jaggu’s territory, potentially supporting the Bambiha gang. While Billa survived the attack, Gora was fatally injured. The Bambiha gang later vowed retaliation and has since been involved in three killings in his name.

In a retaliatory strike, Parmjeet Kaur, the mother of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, was shot dead on June 27 outside her residence in Batala. According to the police, two bike-borne assailants opened fire at around 9:15 pm. Kaur was reportedly in the car with Jaggu’s aide Karanvir at the time of the incident.

Subsequent investigation indicated the attack was orchestrated by the Bambiha gang, reportedly targeting Karanvir in retaliation for Gora’s murder. However, the attackers were unaware that Parmjeet Kaur was also present in the vehicle.

While a few suspects have been apprehended, several co-accused in Gora’s murder remain at large. The Batala police are now intensifying the investigation into Lovejit Kaur’s alleged role in both Gora Bariar’s murder and the retaliatory killing of Parmjeet Kaur.
