Ruckus ahead of Ludhiana West bypoll: Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu clashes with police over ration distribution | Watch
PTC Web Desk: A day before the Ludhiana West Assembly byelection 2025, tensions flared as Congress candidate and former Cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu clashed with the police over alleged illegal distribution of ration by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The confrontation took place in Jawahar Nagar camp, where Congress workers reportedly caught a person distributing ration. The man allegedly fled the scene, abandoning his scooter.
A police team from Division No. 5 station arrived on the spot, following which Bharat Bhushan Ashu reached and got into a heated argument with officials. Ashu accused the AAP of attempting to influence voters and alleged that the police assaulted his supporters and unfairly detained Congress workers instead of taking action against the accused.
This dramatic episode unfolded on the final day of campaigning, with all major parties — AAP, Congress, BJP, and Shiromani Akali Dal — making their last-ditch efforts to sway voters ahead of the June 19 bypoll.
The Ludhiana West seat fell vacant after the death of sitting MLA Gurpreet Gogi, who died from a gunshot wound at his residence on January 14. The Election Commission had announced the bypoll on May 25.
