One Day star Leo Woodall's next Netflix series with major English actress confirmed
Rising star Leo Woodall is poised to share the screen with Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz in a forthcoming Netflix series. The White Lotus actor has secured the title role in Vladimir, an eight-part limited series first announced in March. Weisz, who claimed the 2006 Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in The Constant Gardener, will not only executive produce but also take on the lead role.
The series is based on Julia May Jonas' 2022 novel of the same name, which tells the story of a married woman who becomes fixated on a new colleague. According to the official synopsis: "As a woman's (Weisz) life unravels, she becomes obsessed with her captivating new colleague (Woodall).
The original author, Jonas, will team up with showrunner Kate Robin, known for her work on Netflix's Dead To Me, to adapt the story for the screen. Both will serve as executive producers, alongside Bad Sisters actress Sharon Horgan, who is also among the producers.
The novel explores complex themes of obsession and gender, which are expected to be delved into in the drama.
"With Kate Robin's expertise in crafting layered, darkly comedic female stories, a script that deftly examines the complexity of attraction and moral ambiguities, and the incomparable Rachel Weisz leading the cast, this project is a powerhouse collaboration of talented women.
"We can't wait for our fans to be as obsessed with Vladimir as we are," Netflix's vice president of comedy series, Tracey Pakosta, teased.

Actress Horgan, co-founder of Merman production company, chimed in with: "I fell in love with Julia's writing from the very first paragraph.
"I feel incredibly fortunate and thrilled for Merman to bring Vladimir to life alongside Small Dog. Having the opportunity to collaborate with Netflix and Rachel is a testament to the brilliance of the scripts and an absolute delight."
Vladimir represents Woodall's second leading role for the streaming behemoth. Just last year, the London-born star enthralled viewers as Dexter Mayhew in the romantic drama 'One Day', adapted from David Nicholls' bestseller.
