Ironheart reviews identify same problem with latest Marvel series

The initial reviews for the latest Marvel television series have begun to surface online, echoing a common concern among fans.

Ironheart is finally about to make its debut on Disney Plus with the first three episodes this week.

They are accessible from today (June 24) for US viewers. However, UK subscribers will have to wait a bit longer, with the same episodes arriving the following day.

The remaining three episodes will adhere to a similar release schedule, including the finale, which will be released a week later on July 1 and July 2 respectively.

According to the synopsis, the series takes place after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and sets technology against magic.

Dominique Thorne portrays Riri Williams, who is determined to leave her mark on the world and returns to her hometown of Chicago.

Her innovative approach to constructing iron suits is brilliant, but in chasing her dreams, she becomes entangled with the enigmatic yet captivating Parker Robbins aka The Hood, played by Anthony Ramos, reports the Irish Star.

At the time of writing, there haven't been enough reviews published to generate a rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, it's anyone's guess where that number will end up as critical responses have been somewhat mixed.

One reviewer expressed disappointment, stating: "Ironheart is a fine series I really wanted to love but came away not feeling much. VFX, Action, and some new additions of magic mythology to the world of the MCU stand out (THE HOOD + FINALE = AWESOME) but the character arcs feel at a standstill by the end and don't go anywhere."

Fans are noting that while the show's finale dazzles, the journey there can be less than thrilling. Another critic didn't mince words, declaring: "Ironheart has some fun moments but it's never interesting enough nor it manages to stick the landing. Bland characters and a super uninteresting plot that doesn't knows where it wants to go. A disappointment overall."

Summing up a full season watch, one review read: "We've seen all 6 episodes of Ironheart. A decent MCU series salvaged by a surprisingly strong final episode that is among the best finales of Marvel TV. Riri's character development is thin, but Alden Ehrenreich stands out and the tech v magic conflict intrigues."

Another person chimed in with their take: "Ironheart is pretty solid with good performances from Dominique Thorne and Alden Ehrenreich, but doesn't quite soar since it really takes a while to get going and the villain isn't great, although the finale is well worth the watch."

Contrary views did emerge as one individual commended the series: "I've seen all 6 episodes. I'm a bit surprised Marvel didn't market this more. It's starts pretty strong and gets better and better as the series progresses."

"I've binge-watched all six episodes of Ironheart and it's a must-see. It outshines many recent Marvel Studios cinema releases and is one of the few commendable MCU TV shows. Dominique Thorne shines brightly, top-notch production values, no clue what it's leading to but I'm eager for more.

"Ironheart is precisely the kind of programme that the MCU should be producing. Smaller scale, street-level threats, with robust, character-driven narratives.

Between this and Daredevil: Born Again, MCU's television is on a winning streak. I want more!"

Another viewer believes the problem lies in the brief six-episode season. They commented: "Ironheart suffers from too few episodes to dynamically explore the interesting ideas of access and privilege being discussed. However, Dominique Thorne and Alden Ehrenreich steer this show towards a satisfying conclusion that left me excited for Marvel's next steps.

Like all Marvel products, there are still those that it just can't satisfy as one person remarked: "I've seen all six episodes of Ironheart, and it's not good. Can't fault the cast, but none of them are given much to work with. Some of the action scenes are passable and the finale is by far the strongest episode but it's mostly just tedious to sit through, I'm afraid. I didn't hate it... because there's not enough passion behind any of it to make me feel that strongly one way or the other. The very definition of 'content'."

Ironheart is streaming on Disney+ from June 25.
