Brits are flocking to an underrated coastal driving route that visitors have called "astonishing" after seeing it for themselves. The UK has some glorious road trips, whether it's through the majestic Scottish Highlands or the picturesque Lake District. But there is one that people often overlook, and it has some of the best views in the entire UK, which is why it's even more surprising that many Brits haven't seen it with their own eyes.

City Tours Belfast has reported a significant increase in people from Britain visiting the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland. This coastline stretches across the northern coast of the island of Ireland, a scenic connection between Belfast and Derry. While it is underrated, it is home to famous places as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant's Causeway. The road trip has been praised by those who have taken the journey before, and more Brits are expected to start flocking there for their staycations within the UK.

"There's been a surge in visitors from England and Scotland in particular," a representative from City Tours Belfast said. "People are choosing to explore places closer to home, and the Causeway really surprises them. It's nothing like they expect."

This spot is famous for a number of reasons. Here is where legends of Finn McCool, the mythical Irish giant, are said to have taken place. There is plenty of fascinating Irish mythology to learn during a trip here, so culture vultures will have a great time.

Meanwhile, the geology of the place itself is more than interesting. The columns at the Giant's Causeway are millions of years old and were formed by an ancient volcanic eruption. These formations really are like nothing you have seen before.

Other notable sites along the Causeway Coastal Route include the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, which connects the mainland to a towering island. It is not for the faint-hearted, as you need to brave staggering heights to cross it.

There is also Rathlin Island, Dunluce Castle and the Glens of Antrim. You can complete the drive in one day, or if you want to take it slow and explore the surrounding areas as well, there are towns you can stay in, such as Portrush and Bushmills. In fact, you will find the world's oldest whiskey distillery in Bushmills.

People have had amazing things to say about the Causeway Coastal Route. One Tripadvisor review, titled "Astonishingly Beautiful", reads: "Probably the most amazing scenic drive ever. So happy we were able to drive this and take it all in. Loved everything about it. Small seaside villages and beautiful terrain along with ocean views."

Another said, "We drive along the coastal route from South Belfast all the way to Derry, stopping at a few places along the way, including the Giant's Causeway, which was magical. We hiked along the challenging route, which allowed for stunning views. Although the steps back up were quite scary in the strong wind! Well worth it though."

A third commented: "This was definitely a highlight of our time in Northern Ireland. Everywhere you turn, there is magnificent scenery!"

A fourth said: "We poked along this road on our way from Belfast to Portrush. Starting in Bally Castle, just pull into every pullout and admire the magnificent views. The Giant Causeway is the most notable attraction, though there are many overviews and short hikes along the way. Highly scenic and a great way to spend a day in this beautiful locale."
