Ashok Pathak Aka Binod Recalls The Time When He Was Told To Get A Facial To Improve His Looks

Ashok Pathak, now a familiar name among Indian audiences thanks to his endearing role as Binod in the popular web series Panchayat, didn’t have an easy journey into the world of acting. His breakout success has been a long time in the making, marked by personal trials and industry biases.

Recalling an early phase of his career, Ashok shared that he was once rejected from a big-budget Hindi film despite delivering a good audition and receiving appreciation from the director and producers.

The reason? His appearance. He was told to “get a facial” and work on his skin tone to improve his chances in the industry. Though the comment stung, he went along with the advice, even trying homemade remedies in hopes of making himself more “marketable”. During that difficult period, he often told people he was focusing on his looks, even though he wasn’t really doing anything different.

What made things even harder was watching others get selected while he was left behind. But despite the setbacks, Ashok never let go of his passion for acting. Eventually, the industry began to notice his true strength, his performance. He said that producers started to see that no one else could bring what he did to a role. According to Ashok, appearance might sometimes be negotiable but talent isn’t, and honest work always leaves a mark.

He also cited actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui as proof that genuine skill will always earn its place in the spotlight. Today, Ashok Pathak is once again lighting up screens in Panchayat Season 4, acting alongside seasoned performers like Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav. While the newest season received a mixed response from critics, the audience’s love for Binod and for Ashok has only grown stronger.
