Young married couple shot dead, mowed down by woman's relatives in honour killing in Punjab's Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran: In a suspected case of honour killing, a newly married couple was shot dead on Sunday in broad daylight in the middle of a road in Punjab's Naushera Dhalla village. According to the police the relatives of the woman intercepted the couple in the middle of the road when they were on a motorcycle and opened fire on them.

While the woman's relatives fled, the couple reportedly succumbed to injuries. Police said Amanpreet Kaur, 23, married Amandeep Singh, 24, of the same village four months ago against the wishes of the woman's family.

The police have launched a manhunt to nab the woman's relatives who have been booked for murder and other charges.

According to reports, the couple was returning home after paying obeisance at Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib Thatha when the woman's relatives knocked them down with their vehicle and allegedly ran over then. The relatives then fired at both of them multiple times.

This is the second such incident from Naushera Dhalla village in the past year. Last month, three members of a boy's family were killed by the girl's relatives. The investigation is still underway in the case.
