MP CM orders suspension of 7 engineers for faulty Aishbagh RoB

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday ordered suspension of seven engineers, including two chief engineers for the faulty RoB design and construction at Aishbagh locality in the state capital. A departmental probe has been ordered against a retired superintending engineer (SE).

The RoB came into limelight after it was found that it has a sharp 90 degree turn which poses a great risk to commuters.

Yadav stated on social media, "Serious negligence was observed in the construction of the Aishbagh ROB, and I had ordered an investigation into the matter. Based on the investigation report, action has been taken against eight engineers from the PWD. Seven engineers, including two CEs, have been suspended with immediate effect. A departmental inquiry will be conducted against a retired SE."

Due to the faulty design of the ROB, both the construction agency and the design consultant have been blacklisted.

A committee has been formed to address the necessary improvements in the ROB and it will be inaugurated only after rectification of the design flaw, the CM wrote on social media.

The RoB has been constructed at a cost of Rs 18 core.

The officials suspended are Umashankar Mishra , Ravi Shukla, Javed Shakeel, GP Verma, Shanul Saxena, Shabana Razzaq, Sanjay Khande and MP Singh (retired). For faulty design action was taken against consultant Puneet Chadha.

Sources privy to the entire issue said that the committee had submitted its report to the PWD minister in which it recommended giving a curve ahead of the 90-degree turn on the ROB so as to give time and space to the commuters to slow down and turn their vehicles. It has also recommended blacklisting of the company that was handed the contract for construction and pointed out to the lack of coordination between the railways and the PWD, leading to goof up in the design of the overbridge, said the sources.

PWD minister Rakesh Singh had told TOI on June 26 that in addition to suggesting corrective measures the committee would also fix the responsibility as to who prepared the DPR of the Aishbagh ROB and how it got cleared.
