Doctor booked for sexually abusing NRI with marriage promise
Rourkela: Police in Sundargarh district have registered a case against a 50-year-old doctor of a private hospital for allegedly sexually abusing a former schoolmate from Jharkhand, who now lives in USA, on the pretext of marriage and for cheating.
The accused is on the run and police are searching for him. Police said the doctor, who is married, remained in touch with the woman, also aged 50, who works in the US, through group chats among friends. He was regularly in contact with her from 2019 to 2023. Though she was married, he expressed his love for her, and they began a relationship. He met her during her visits to India and spent time with her.
She came to Sundargarh in April and stayed in a hotel with the doctor. He again assured her of marriage and maintained a physical relationship with her. Later, she discovered that he was married. She came to Sundargarh a few days ago and contacted the doctor. When she confronted him about his marriage, he allegedly had a heated argument with her.
The woman then lodged an FIR on July 2, following which he went into hiding, police said.
"Based on the woman's FIR, we have registered a case against the doctor and we are investigating," said inspector B K Singh.
