296 ticketless travellers caught in 'fortress check' by SCR authorities at Nanded

AURANGABAD: A total of 296 ticketless travellers were penalized and an amount of Rs1,16,725 was realized from them as fare and penalty , during a fortress check that was carried out by the South Central Railway (SCR) at Nanded station recently.

“The check commenced at 5am and continued till 6pm on Wednesday.

All the un-authorized entrances at Nanded station were closed during the check. This ensured the movement of the passengers and public only through the main entrances on platform numbers 1 and 4,” said Rajesh Shinde, public relations officer for the Nanded division of the SCR.

A total of 23 ticket checking staff and 14 Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff, including 2 inspectors, participated in the check.

“During the check, it was observed that passengers were entering the station premises without a valid journey or platform ticket. Moreover, the pedestrians using the foot over bridge to go to the Shivaji Nagar or Gokul Nagar sides were entering the platforms without proper authority,” said Shinde, adding that such movement of unauthorized passengers causes inconvenience to the bona fide passengers and can comprise the safety of the other passengers.

“The foot over bridge is provided for the movement of the railway passengers only and not for outsiders to go from one side of the station to the other. The public is therefore requested to enter the station only after obtaining a valid journey or platform ticket,” said the SCR authorities.

The authorities have stressed that people entering the station through the unauthorized entry points or by using the foot over bridges, without valid journey or platform tickets, will be penalized as per the rules.

“The fortress checks will be conducted frequently not only at the Nanded station but also at other important stations in the Nanded division. We appeal to the general public to not enter the railway platforms without proper authority,” said Trikalagya Rabha, Divisional Railway Manager for the Nanded division.
