A day after polls, candidates keep fingers crossed

Nashik: A day after polls, candidates and their loyalists are keeping their fingers crossed in the hope of winning maximum seats in their respective constituencies.

Some candidates and party leaders were quite optimistic about their victory in the district. A total of 148 candidates were in fray for 15 state assembly seats.

Both BJP and NCP have claimed they will win maximum seats in the district.

State secretary of BJP Laxman Savji said BJP-Shiv Sena alliance will win 14 out of 15 seats in the district. “We are only doubtful about the Malegaon Central seat,” Savji said.

“Earlier, people would vote for the candidate of their choice. But, the democratic pattern has changed a lot in past few years. In Lok Sabha polls, people voted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead of the candidates,” he said.

The same pattern is being repeated for state polls. People have voted for chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on the basis of the developmental works he carried out in the state in last five years. “Hence, there will be zero effect of BJP and Sena rebels, particularly in Nashik East and Nashik West constituencies, in the city,” Savji said.

NCP district president Ravindra Pagar exuded confidence that NCP-Congress will win at least 12 seats in the district and NCP will even form the government in the state.

“Farmers and common people are fed up with the BJP government in the state. They are disappointed with the government. The picture will be clear when the results come out on Thursday when,” Pagar said.

Most candidates spent their days meeting party activists and office-bearers. Some attended birthdays and other programmes in their constituencies.

BJP rebel and NCP candidate from Nashik East Balasaheb Sanap said he started his day on Tuesday as usual. He attended a funeral, some birthday parties and other programmes in the city.

“In the morning, I met party activists and office-bearers and conducted meeting about vote counting day. I am confident of winning the Nashik East seat with good margin. I have carried out a lot of development works in my constituency in the last five years. I am confident that voters have taken cognizance of this and voted for me,” Sanap said.
