Bids invited to repair Shadipur and Raja Garden flyovers
New Delhi: Shadipur and Raja Garden flyovers are likely to be repaired soon. Bids have been invited to initiate structural repairs. While the Shadipur flyover was built in 1971, the Raja Garden flyover is 24 years old. Public Works Department officials said that both these structures required urgent attention due to wear and tear.
In March, Delhi govt ordered a comprehensive survey of all 102 flyovers across the city to assess their condition. Several of these structures—especially those built in the lead-up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games—have since been flagged for repair. Repair work has already been completed on flyovers in Shahdara, Loni Road, Nangloi, Chirag Delhi, Okhla, Janak Setu and Pul Mithai.
A PWD official said that the estimated budget for repairing the Raja Garden flyover was ₹4.9 crore and for the Shadipur flyover ₹3.9 crore. To ensure minimal disruption to traffic, the work will be carried out in smaller sections, keeping parts of the flyovers operational throughout the repair period. Most of the repair work will take place at night. After the flyovers are repaired, their service life is expected to get extended by at least 40 years.
