Cops visit Vakapalli as goodwill gesture, SP assures development

Visakhapatnam: Vizag (Rural) police led by superintendent of police (SP) Babujee Attada conducted a Sadbhavana Yatra to create confidence among tribals at Vakapalli village under G Madugula mandal in Vizag Agency on Sunday.

It may be recalled that Vakapalli village shot into the news when 11 tribal women were gangraped, allegedly by Greyhound personnel on August 20, 2007, at Vakapalli village with the apex court taking a serious view of the delay in the trial.

At present, the case is under trial at a special court in Visakhapatnam city.

While interacting with the police, tribals told Babujee Attada that though there had been some development in the village, a lot more needs to be done in terms of unemployment and basic facilities.

The SP assured the tribals that he would speak with the district collector, ITDA officials and other authorities in order to address their issues. He also assured them of organising skill development training for the youth.

The police also organised a medical camp in the village and over 300 people underwent tests and were given medicines. Later, a volleyball tournament was organised. Winners were given prizes and volleyball kits.

The SP advised the youth to not indulge in anti-social and criminal activities.
