Failed to land a job with star hotel, girl hangs self

HOWRAH: A receptionist with a hotel in Howrah was found hanging at a ladies' hostel in Bally with her earphones plugged in and her mobile phone tucked into her dress. Police said 23-year-old Sabina Yasmin died while listening to music. A suicide note was found from her hostel room.

According to family sources, after she passed out from a reputable institute in Kolkata, Sabina's ambition was to work with a five-star hotel.

She applied to several star hotels for the past one year, but could not land a job with any big hotel. In the suicide note she left behind, Sabina wrote: " Amar dwara kichu hobe na. Amar mrityur jonye keu jeno dukkho na kore ebong keu dai noy. (I am a failure. Nobody should feel sorry for my death and no one is responsible for it.)

Her body was recovered on Friday morning. Hostel inmates alerted the authorities after Sabina did not open the doors. The authorities, in turn, informed Bally police station. A team of cops reached the hostel premises on Bireshwar Chatterjee Street and broke open the door. Sabina was found hanging from the ceiling fan.

Her father, Sheikh Aminuddin, reached Bally from his home at East Midnapore's Nandigram and told police that after she failed to get a job with any star hotel, she took up an offer of a receptionist's job with a hotel near Howrah station around eight months ago. "She had been saying she was not happy with her job," Aminuddin said.

An officer of Bally police station said, "Her family had to take loans to fund her hotel management studies. She wanted to repay the loan from her salary. However, her current salary was not enough for that." She had job offers from a hotel in New Town and a private bank. But those were not jobs of her choice and she was in a dilemma, said the officer.

ACP north Pratiksha Jharakriya said, "We got a suicide note. We also checked her call details. Her body has been sent for autopsy." tnn
