PATNA: The police arrested the alleged mastermind of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka's murder, the police confirmed on Tuesday. The accused, an iron trader named Ashok Sao, reportedly arranged a contract killing for Rs 10 lakh.

Sources said the motive behind the murder is suspected to be the business rivalry between the two. The trader was arrested from his flat located under the Gandhi Maidan police station area during a police raid. According to the police, following the murder, the sharpshooter Umesh Yadav sought refuge at his apartment near Patna Museum, which is owned by a prominent businessman.

Police officials, acting on intelligence, conducted a raid at the apartment last night and took Sao into custody for interrogation. The investigation into this prominent murder case points towards the possible involvement of Ajay Verma, who is presently incarcerated in Beur Jail.

The authorities believe that a property-related conflict could be the underlying cause of this fatal incident.

An accused identified as Vikas alias Raja, was shot dead in an encounter by Bihar Police late Monday night. He was allegedly involved in the manufacture and sale of illegal weapons and had accompanied shooter Umesh during the murder.
