Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi slams religious profiling of dhaba owners on Kanwar Yatra Route
HYDERABAD: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday strongly condemned reports of some dhaba owners on Delhi-Dehradun highway being asked to "open their pants" to verify their religion in connection with the Kanwar Yatra .
"Why are such incidents happening now? There were no issues on the route 10 years ago. Many hotels near Muzaffarnagar highway ran peacefully for years. Who are these vigilantes to ask anyone to remove their pants for identification of religion? Are they running a superior govt? They are acting as if they are above the law. The police must arrest those responsible. Why is the state govt not taking action against them? Neither the state govt nor the vigilantes are following the Supreme Court orders," he said.
The SC, on July 22 last year, issued an interim order putting on hold guidelines that asked shopkeepers in Uttar Pradesh along Kanwar Yatra routes to display their names.
