HYDERABAD: During its 24th convocation , the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) announced its ambition to take the lead in digital health and cybersecurity , intending to develop solutions tailored to the country's needs.

A total of 529 students received degrees at the ceremony, including graduates from undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

Addressing the students, Ashok Jhunjhunwala , institute's chairman, said: "Digital health is one area where the institute has both the intent and capability to lead. We want to do for digital health what UPI did for financial transactions in India."

He added that cybersecurity is another critical area in which India must be self-reliant. "We cannot depend on or trust external systems. Our goal is to lead in this field over the next five to 15 years, working alongside start-ups, industry and other institutions to ensure national security."

Debjani Ghosh, president of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), told the students, "My message to you is simple: lead with gratitude, walk with purpose, and embrace what scares you, that's where real growth happens. Success is a team sport, and gratitude is the glue that holds it together. Your degree shows what you know, but your relevance depends on how quickly you can learn and unlearn. Don't chase networks, build real human connections. Every opportunity I've had came from someone who believed in me. The world ahead is chaotic, but full of possibility. Be kind to yourself and help build a Viksit Bharat."

Among the graduates was Vineeth Bhat, who was awarded the IIIT-H gold medal in recognition of his outstanding academic performance. "I discovered that being surrounded by extremely smart people at IIIT doesn't make you any less intelligent... For me, this is a life mantra: always try to be kinder and smarter. Ensure that your external actions align with your internal world. What you believe internally should be reflected in what you do. When there's a disconnect between the two, it becomes apparent," he said.
