Indore crime branch arrests 45th accused in Rs 70-crore MD drugs case
INDORE: The crime branch of Indore police on Tuesday arrested the 45th accused in the Rs 70-crore MD drugs case from Ajmer jail, where he was lodged in connection with another NDPS case registered in Rajasthan. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said Rafiq Khan, a resident of Akhepura, Pratapgarh (Rajasthan), who was absconding since the incident, was arrested on Tuesday.
He said that Indore crime branch police registered a case under sections 8/22, 8/25, 8/29 of the NDPS Act along with sections 420, 465, 120B, and 201 of the IPC. The crime branch actively pursued drug traffickers involved in large-scale smuggling of MD drugs and tracked Rafiq Khan for a long time.
Acting on a tip-off about Khan's presence in Ajmer jail, the Indore crime branch team obtained a production warrant and brought him before the district court in Indore. He was sent to police remand for further interrogation.
Police officials said the accused remained elusive since the registration of the case, prompting the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Indore, to announce a cash reward for his arrest. With Khan's arrest, the total number of accused nabbed in this high-profile drug trafficking case has gone up to 45. Legal proceedings are underway under the supervision of the crime branch, Indore.
