Jaipur: Boy run over by scooter, dies bleeding on Murlipura road
JAIPUR: A 14-year-old school boy, who was hit by a scooter, died bleeding on the road as commuters looked the other way in Murlipura on Thursday morning.
The incident took place at 6.30am when Hitesh Kumawat was going to school on his bicycle. “A scooter hit his bicycle and then ran over him. Hitesh was bleeding profusely and knocked unconscious.
He was taken to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead,” said an official with the traffic police.
Hitesh’s uncle, who was going for a morning walk, spotted his nephew and took him to the hospital. The family said that many vehicles passed by without stopping as Hitesh lay writhing in pain on the road. Nobody came to help him or to take him to a hospital.
Jaipur police said that the victim’s father worked as a medical assistant in Barmer district. For the past several years, he has been living in Richa Vihar area of Murlipura with his mother and elder brother at his uncle’s house as the family hoped that he would get better education in Jaipur. “Relatives told us that he was a meritorious student who used to leave home early in the morning for tuitions before going to school. The family had very high hopes of him,” the official said.

As per the family’s account, he woke up a little late on Thursday morning and had left home without breakfast in a hurry to attend classes. “He took a wrong turn and an oncoming scooter rammed into him. He was knocked unconscious and could not be saved,” said the official.
His body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. “We have retrieved CCTV footage of the accident , but the scooter’s registration number is not visible. We are trying to find out the vehicle to arrest the owner,” the official told TOI.
Cops challan 620 school vehicles in city
Jaipur police has taken action against school buses, mini buses, autos, cars and vans of 16 schools for violating safety norms while transporting children to educational institutions. DCP (Traffic) Rahul Prakash told TOI that challans were issued to over 620 vehicles for flouting norms in a two-day operation. As per data, 20 buses, 210 mini buses, 93 cars, 58 autos, 8 vans, and 133 other vehicles were found to be violating the safety act.
