Jalpaiguri: Jalpaiguri Women police station on Saturday booked a Class 8 student under the Pocso Act for allegedly molesting his classmate inside the classroom. The incident took place at a private co-educational school on June 23. On June 25, when the girl's parents went to lodge a complaint with the school authority, the latter allegedly tried to suppress the matter. Following this, the parents lodged a complaint with the Children Welfare Committee (CWC).

On Saturday, CWC instructed Jalpaiguri Women PS to take immediate measures and sought an inquiry report within three days. Following this, the accused boy was booked. "My daughter was badly traumatised following the incident. What's worse, the school authority was not ready to listen to us and threatened to take drastic steps against my daughter when I went to lodge a complaint. My daughter was bullied by a section of her classmates following the incident," the girl's mother alleged.

"The principal also threatened to take legal measures against me when I did not turn up after she summoned me to the school," she added. "We have instructed the IC of the Women PS to submit an inquiry report in three days," said Jalpaiguri CWC chairman Manna Mukherjee.
