Kalinga Natya Mahotsav held in the city

The city witnessed a multilingual theatre festival held at Rabindra Mandap recently. It was the 22 nd Kalinga Natya Mahotsav that brought four plays from different languages for the city theatre lovers. Organised by one of the reputed theatre troupes in the state, the four-day long drama festival was a hit among the city people.




On the opening day the organising troupe presented a play Dashabatar, written by Shankar Tripathy and directed by Dhira Mallick. On the second evening a bengali play, Dharma Mangal , was presented by troupe from Kolkata. On the third evening an Odia play, Ahalyara Bahaghar , was staged by a theatre team from Bhubaneswar. On the concluding evening, English play, The Dumb Waiter , written by Harold Pinter , was performed by students of National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi.


“This festival aims at creating a cultural exchange among troupes from various parts of the country. People here get to know about theatre and culture of other languages and states and similarly the outsiders get to know about our plays and our culture and tradition,” said Dhira Mallick, organiser .
