Kolkata: Madhyamik examinee raped, uncle held
KOLKATA: A 19-year-old girl who had appeared in her Madhyamik exams this year has alleged that she was raped by her maternal uncle after playing Holi together on Thursday. According to the FIR, the incident took place at accused Avijit Kundu’s house in Patuli around 5.30pm. On Friday, the girl and her mother lodged a complaint with Patuli police.
Kundu, 24, was arrested within a few hours after the complaint was lodged, even though he tried to flee to South 24 Parganas.
“We nabbed Kundu from Narendrapur and registered a case of rape under IPC Section 376 (2),” said an officer.
According to sources, Kundu was earlier employed by a departme-ntal store as a security guard but left the job after an accident. He is currently unemployed.
On Thursday, the girl had come to Kundu’s place to celebrate Holi with her relatives. After the revelry at Vidyasagar Colony, Kundu offered to take his niece to his house in Patuli so she could take a bath. When they reached the house, Kundu allegedly raped her. He then took her to her maternal grandparents.
