Midday meal norms violated: 568 schools in Bengaluru face action for replacing eggs with bananas
BENGALURU: The department of School Education and Literacy has issued notices to 568 schools which were found giving bananas to students instead of eggs in the midday meal scheme .
Action was taken following a report submitted by Azim Premji Foundation which is funding the eggs in government and aided schools of the state. Recently the Foundation conducted inspection at 762 schools and found 568 schools not following the norms.
The report had cited inefficiency of the School Development Monitoring Committee as the issue. It was found that in some schools, children were getting eggs for only three or two days instead of six days.
In some schools, the SDMC is giving bananas instead of eggs on Mondays and Saturdays without the consent of the parents even when children were willing to eat the eggs. In some other schools eggs are being given for three days and bananas for three days. Department has warned disciplinary action against the erring schools.
