Mor named in Maha University Act Amendment Committee
Nagpur: Ravishankar Mor , director of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar School of Law , was appointed as a member of the state-level University Act Amendment Committee. This committee has been formed by the Maharashtra govt to suggest amendments to the legislative acts governing four major universities in the state.
The universities whose acts are under review include Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (Ramtek), Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (Nashik), Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (Lonere), and COEP Technological University (Pune).
The committee is headed by Anil Rao, former principal of MJ College, Jalgaon. Other members include experts from prestigious institutions across the state, with Dilip Bharad, registrar of YCMOU, serving as the member secretary.
The committee is tasked with studying existing acts, suggesting amendments compatible with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and ensuring incorporation of national and international best practices. The committee has been asked to submit a detailed report to govt within three months.
The Maharashtra govt is amending acts governing universities to make higher education more compatible, research-driven, employable, and accessible. With this initiative, they aim to align the universities' legislative framework with the NEP and emerging trends in higher education. The reforms are expected to support more research-driven, employability-focused, and inclusive academic environments.
