Rohtak soldier cremated; BJP, AAP leaders throng village

ROHTAK: Sepoy Sandeep Malik, 27, who attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists near Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, was cremated with full state honour on Friday at his native village Balabha in Meham.


His elder brother Naveen Malik lit the pyre. Hundreds of residents from the village and neighbouring areas bid adieu to the martyr.

Sandeep is survived by his wife and aged parents.

Colonel Pardeep Duggal on behalf of Indian Army paied tribute to the departing soul.

Besides police and Army officials, cooperative minister Manish Grover, BJP Rohtak Lok Sabha candidate Dr Arvind Sharma, BJP leaders Balraj Kundu and Shamsher Kharkhara and AAP state convener Naveen Jaihind attended the cremation.

Talking to media, Col Duggal said Malik and his colleagues had killed six terrorists on May 15 at Dalipora village of J&K.

Malik was recruited in the Army in 2012 and was currently posted with 55 RR Jat Regiment in Pulwama.

Malik was seriously injured in anti-terrorist operation and was taken to 92 Base Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Later, talking to media, AAP state convener Naveen Jaihind announced to give Rs 1 lakh financial aid for Sandeep’s family.
