Shoppers, children go wild, binge on crafts, camels & candy at mela

Chandigarh: Even on the fourth day, a staggering footfall was abuzz at the 11th Chandigarh National Crafts Mela.

Tricity shoppers went on a spree with items ranging from garmets, wall-hangings, artefacts to jewellery. The women buyers could be seen glued outside stalls selling Madhubani paintings, tussar cotton handwoven sarees, Thanjavur paintings, Pashmina shawls, dress material, junk jewellery etc.

The furniture from Uttar Pradesh and artefacts from Karnataka too got some attention.

Traders from Thailand have also arrived at the venue and are much popular already for their cane bags, hair clips, fridge magnets, ceramic, bamboo and paper wind chymes, slipons made out of cotton fibre, jewellery boxes, souvenirs, wall decoratives, umbrellas etc, moreso for being priced between Rs 50 and 1200. They also have garden decoration pieces made from ceramic, cloth bags, wallets, besides dresses for infants.

At Stall 38, you will find Shekhar Arora who has brought the miracles of Feng Shui designed from Ludhiana. His products range from Rs 50 to 550.

When all the shopping has made you hungry, you will get all the food you can name at the venue. Monday’s speciality were nutritious snacks from Godhara, beisdes the hard to resist methi gota, moong dal muthia, khandvi, fafda, jalebi, khaman dhokla, dabeli, kadi khichdi etc.

Children too had a blast riding camels, enjoying swings, puppet dance and muching on pop corns, ice-creams and candy floss.
