Syndicate clears appointment of six assistant professors

Vadodara: M S University’s syndicate on Tuesday cleared appointments of six assistant professors including five at the Faculty of Commerce and one at the Faculty of Arts even as many posts of permanent teaching staffers are expected to remain vacant.

At the Department of Sindhi of Faculty of Arts, based on selection committee’s recommendation, Varsha Udhodasani has been appointed as assistant professor.



It was after a gap of 56 years that interview for a permanent teaching post at the department was held recently.

Udhodasani herself was serving as a temporary teacher for the last 22 years and it is now that she has been appointed as a permanent teacher.

At the Department of Banking and Insurance of Faculty of Commerce, there were two candidates for the post of assistant professor in SC category of which Namrata Jadhav has been selected for the post while in the same department, there were five candidates for the post in EWS category of which Neha Pandya has been selected. On the two posts in unreserved category, Sofia Devi Shamurailatpam and Bhagirath Prakash Bariya have been selected as assistant professors of the department.

At the Department of Cooperative Management and Rural Studies of Faculty of Commerce, of the ten candidates who had appeared for one post in unreserved category, a teacher from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi Shantanu Saurabh has been selected.

Despite the mammoth exercise that the university has started after a couple of decades to fill up 682 permanent teaching posts, many a posts will remain vacant.

As many as 80 posts will not be filled as the university has simply not received any application from candidates for the permanent posts which are mainly in the reserved category.

After the initial round of interviews, the teaching post of assistant professor at Department of French will remain vacant as the selection panel did not find any candidate suitable even as 19 candidates had applied for the post in the unreserved category.

Similarly, the selection panel has not found any candidate suitable for one post of assistant professor in SEBC category in the Department of Banking and Insurance where two candidates had applied for the post.

At the Department of Cooperative Management and Rural Studies too, the panel did not find any of the four candidates suitable for one post in EWS category.
