HYDERABAD: As Telangana grapples with a mounting debt, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday presented an overview of the state's financial constraints-and its ambitious development plans-to Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council (EAC) chairman S Mahendra Dev.

In their meeting, Revanth stressed the urgent need for sustainable infrastructure development, job creation , and stronger Centre-state cooperation to help states like Telangana overcome fiscal challenges and accelerate growth. He also underlined the importance of cooperative federalism , asserting that states must be empowered as key drivers of national progress. "The country can move forward only when its states develop. We seek mutual respect and constructive engagement between the Centre and the states," he said.

The CM explained that a large portion of the state's current revenue is being used to service high interest loans borrowed by the previous BRS govt. "This is severely impacting our development capacity. We are actively working to renegotiate and restructure these debts to reduce the financial burden," he said. Despite these constraints, Revanth outlined a comprehensive strategy for economic development. He emphasised that building a skilled workforce and creating an enabling environment for businesses are key to attracting investment and expanding employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

A major part of the govt's growth agenda is focused on urban infrastructure, especially in and around Hyderabad. Revanth highlighted the ongoing construction of the Regional Ring Road, which is set to improve connectivity and promote industrial development in the city's outer regions.
