Two Gumla villages to get urban facelift

GUMLA: Two tribal panchayats near Gumla — Karaundi and Telgaon — will soon get a facelift under the Centre’s Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission , officials said on Thursday. The plan, which incorporates 62 government schemes , aims to change the lifestyle of villagers by providing livelihood and urban amenities to them, they added.



The project, with 20 components, is likely to entail a cost of Rs 100 crore. “Schemes for capacity building and livelihood project will first be started. Then, urban amenities like roads, drains, electricity , water supply , internet and other facilities will be made available,” said mission expert Geeta.

Vikas Bharti, an NGO run by Padma Shri recipient Ashok Bhagat , has signed an MoU with the administration for the projects. “At least eight products like papad, buri, leaf bowls and pickle, will be made by women of the twin panchayats,” said an official.

“The Rurban project will bridge the gap between urban and rural areas.” deputy commissioner Sashi Ranjan said.
